The outshot the by a 35-18 margin but couldn鈥檛 find the back of Keaton Dyck鈥檚 net often enough in a 3-5 loss Wednesday at Aldergrove Arena.
It was the first matchup of the two teams since the Trappers joined the this season.
The teams traded goals for the first two periods but the Trappers took the win in the dying minute of the third when they scored on a power play, followed seconds later by an empty-netter.
Trapper Colin Cromie earned a hat trick and the game鈥檚 first star for a pair of goals in the first period and a third goal on a power play at 19:02 in the third. Team mate Carter Graham earned the second star for three assists.
Kodiak Kyle Bosky earned the third star for his three point night, with a goal and a pair of assists.
Trapper Cromie scored just 20 seconds into the game, but Kodiaks captain Matt Oliver responded with a goal eight minutes later on a brilliant pass from Bosko, with help from Arjan Cheema.
Cromie scored again five minutes later, assisted by Joshua Boelema and Graham to take a 2-1 lead, but Bosko evened it up on a power play five minutes later, assisted by Ty Pickering and Evan Cusmano.
Trappers took a 3-2 lead halfway through the second, with a power play goal by Nicholas Wager, assisted by Graham. Kodiak Clayton Schroeder evened it up again at 18:40, assisted by Bosko and Oliver.
The pressure was on both sides for the third period but it was Trapper Cromie who scored the winner at 19:02, assisted by Boelema and Brad Warburton.
The Kodiaks pulled net minder Jesse Gillis to try for overtime but it was the Trappers who scored on the empty net, with a shot from Bryan Gowin, assisted by Brendan Black and Thomas Colter.
The Trappers scored twice on five power plays while the Kodiaks scored once on four.
The result leaves the Kodiaks at 17 points after 20 games (7-10-1-2) and the Trappers at 14 points after 20 games (7-13-0-0).
Kodiaks Oliver and Bosko are both near the top of the top 20 league leaders, with 36 points for second-place Oliver and 30 for sixth-place Bosko. Abbotsford Pilots鈥� Baylee Wright is firmly in first place with 48 points. Abbotsford has five players in the top 20, while 91原创 has none.
The Trappers travel to Port Moody this Saturday to play the Panthers an the Kodiaks travel to Delta on Tuesday to play the league-leading Ice Hawks.
The Trappers host the North Vancouver Wolf Pack on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at George Preston Arena, and the Koiaks host the Ridge Meadows Flames on the same night at Aldergrove Arena.
