Five hundred hockey players between the ages of five and eight strapped on their skates this past week in honour of a little boy who loved hockey.

The players took part in the 11th annual Jordan Owens Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Walnut Grove Sportsplex from March 19-22.

Owens was just eight years old when he passed away after a battle with cancer in 1999.

Every March, the 91Ô´´ Minor Hockey Association has held a tournament in honour of Jordan, who was an avid hockey player.

This year’s event raised approximately $16,000 and the 11-year total has surpassed $86,000.

The money raised through the tournament goes towards the B.C. Children’s Hospital.
