Vasily Podkolzin’s goal with .6 of a second remaining in overtime gave the Abbotsford Canucks a 2-1 win over the Colorado Eagles inside the Abbotsford Centre on Tuesday (Oct. 24).
Podkolzin has now scored in three straight games and he notched his second game-winning goal of the season already. He has five goals in five games to start the AHL season.

The other big story for Abbotsford was in between the pipes, as Nikita Tolopilo made his home debut for the Canucks and put together his second straight strong start.
Tolopilo made 34 saves to secure his second AHL win. In two appearances he has a .953 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.16.

Abbotsford’s John Stevens opened the scoring on a shorthanded breakaway at 19:17 of the first period. That goal stood until Colorado’s Riley Tufte tied the game up at 8:23 of the second. Colorado outshot Abbotsford 35-24 in the game.
Defenceman Christian Wolanin was one of Abbotsford’s better players and had the primary assists on both goals. Wolanin has eight assists in five games. Sheldon Dries led the Canucks with five shots on goal.

Attendance at the Abbotsford Centre on Tuesday was 3,789.
