The final eight teams are set for all four tiers at the 2024 BC School Sports Girls Basketball Championships.

In the 1A division, 91Ô­´´â€™s Credo Christian made it through after besting École Jules-Verne Albatros 70-41 on Wednesday, the first day of competition. In 2A action, 91Ô­´´ Christian Lightning’s 95 put them ahead of Nechako Valley Viqueens which scored 33.

The Brookswood Bobcats are in the 3A division. Their game against the Caledonia Kermodes resulted in a 108-26 win.

In 4A, Walnut Grove didn’t make it through to the next round after the Okanagan Mission Huskies took the match 75-54.

The 64-team, four-day tournament runs Feb. 28 to March 2 at 91Ô­´´ Events Centre.

Quarter-final action gets underway at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29.

1A Tournament

Seven of the top eight seeds advanced on the opening day of the BC School Sports Girls 1A Basketball Championships at 91Ô­´´ Events Centre with the lone upset coming in the No. 6 vs. No. 11 matchup.

#1 Pacific Christian 64 #16 Bulkley Valley Christian 16

A balanced attack from the Pacific Christian Pacers saw all 11 players make at least one field as the No. 1 seed from Victoria was a 64-16 winner over the Bulkley Valley Christian Royals.

Abi Ellison (11 points) and Eden Greene (10) points were the top scorers for Pacific Christian while Grade 11 forward Keji Jada finished with nine points for a young Royals squad which only dresses one Grade 12.

#8 Cedars Christian Eagles 60 #9 Charles Bloom 46

The Cedars Christian Eagles were deadly from beyond the arc, hitting 10 triples for half their points as they defeated the Charles Bloom Timberwolves 60-46 in the 8-9 matchup.

The teams were tied after a quarter with Cedars Christian using a 14-3 run bridging the second and third quarters to take control of the contest. Amy Larson (19) and Mila Johnson (13) did the bulk of the damage for the Eagles with Larson sinking four triples from beyond the arc.

#4 St. Ann’s Academy Crusaders 70 #13 Grand Forks Wolves 15

Morgan Eichenberger scored 18 of her 26 points in the first quarter as Kamloops’ St. Ann’s Crusaders were too much for the Grand Forks Wolves, winning 70-15. Callie Perrot’s five points led Grand Forks.

#5 Sir Alexander Mackenzie Grizzlies 69 #12 White Rock Christian Academy 36

It was the Parr show in Wednesday’s opening round game as Annika Parr scored 32 while Ayanna Parr added 20 to lead a young Sir Alexander Mackenzie Grizzlies squad to a 69-36 win over the White Rock Christian Academy Warriors. Madeline Slofstra’s 10 points were tops for White Rock Christian.

#3 Credo Christian Kodiaks 70 #14 École Jules-Verne Albatros 41

The defending tournament champion came out hot in the first quarter, scoring 27 points in that 10-minute stretch as they won 70-41 over the École Jules-Verne Albatros. Alexa Leyenhorst scored 16 while Demi Timmerman added 15 for the Kodiaks. The Albatros’ Jessica Williams had 26 for her team.

#11 Immaculata Mustangs 44 #6 Nanaimo Christian Trail Blazers 39

The lone upset on the 1A side came with the Immaculata Mustangs outscoring the Nanaimo Christian Trail Blazers 19-8 down the stretch for the 44-39 win. Iyra Puno’s 20 points led the Mustangs with Nicole Hobbs scoring 21 for Nanaimo Christian.

#7 Kelowna Christian Knights 56 #10 St. Margaret’s School 33

A 16-2 run to start the game set the tone as the Kelowna Christian was a 56-33 winner over St. Margaret’s School. Mia Klassen’s 22 points and Claire Pasenau 19 led the Knights while Abby Nicholson (15 points) and Syna Mangat (12) were the leading scorers for St. Margaret’s School.

#2 Unity Christian Flames 73 #15 Meadowridge Gryphons 27

Miah Schuurman led the Unity Christian Flames with 23 points in a tournament-opening 73-27 victory over the Meadowridge Gryphons. Aneet Dhillon was Meadowridge’s leading scorer with 12 points.

2A Tournament

Both the No. 10 and 11 seeds advanced to the quarter-finals after opening round play at the BC School Sports 2A Girls Basketball Provincial Championships at 91Ô­´´ Events Centre on Feb. 28.

#1 Mulgrave Titans 96 #16 Brentwood College 37

Reigning Most Valuable Player Eva Ruse picked up where she left off from last year’s championship, scoring 32 points as the defending champion and top-ranked Mulgrave Titans opened with a 96-37 win over Brentwood College. Grade 9 guard Kionah Williams countered with 17 for Brentwood College.

#8 Pacific Academy Breakers 59 #9 Abbotsford Christian Knights 50

A strong first half built a double-digit advantage as the Pacific Academy Breakers won 59-50 over the Abbotsford Christian Knights. Camryn Vos led the Breakers with 14 points, with 10 of those coming in the first half. Lauren Van Dyk scored 19 for the Knights.

#4 Notre Dame Jugglers 59 #13 Fernie Falcons 50

After trailing briefly, the Notre Dame Jugglers maintained a double-digit lead from the second quarter onwards, defeating the Fernie Falcons 59-50. The Falcons did close the gap with the final nine points but could get no closer.

As a team, Notre Dame was good on eight of their long-distance attempts with Kaitlyn Chan accounting for five of those and a team-high 17 points. Fernie’s Leila Hannemann led all scorers with 19.

#5 St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights 53 #12 Kalamalka Lakers 34

A dominant defensive second quarter which saw them hold the Kalamalka Lakers to a single field goal helped the St. Thomas More Collegiate take control in a 53-34 win over the Kalamalka Lakers. The team was led offensively by a pair of Grade 10s as Demicah Arnaldo had 25 with Mia Believeau chipping in with 18. Sydney Lewis with 14 and Brynn Fixen with 12 were the top scorers for the Falcons.

#11 St. Patrick Celtics 68 #6 Southridge Storm 56

A second-half surge has sent the St. Patrick Celtics through to the quarter-final round with an upset victory over the Southridge Storm 68-56. After being held to 22 points in the first 20 minutes, the Celtics scored 27 in the third quarter alone to build a nine-point advantage. The Storm would get back to within four points, but St. Patrick responded with a 12-2 to re-establish control. Leading the Celtics charge was Chrisandra Laigo and Chrisalyn Laigo as they Grade 12 guards finished with 19 and 18 points, respectively. The Storm were led by Grade 10 forward Nicole Lofing’s 18 points while Grade 12 guard Sophia Tapley added 15.

#3 91Ô­´´ Christian Lightning 95 #14 Nechako Valley Viqueens 33

The 91Ô­´´ Christian Lightning struck early and often as they blitzed the Nechako Valley Viqueens 95-33. The Lightning jumped ahead 25-2 and were up 43-11 at the half. Colette Van der Hoven’s 25 points paced the offence with Grace Bradshaw adding 18 and Grade 10 forward Georgia Van der Waarde chipped in with 14. Molly Black’s 11 points led the Viqueens.

#10 Britannia Bruins 68 #7 Lambrick Park Lions 50

A strong first quarter helped the Britannia Bruins to a 68-50 upset victory over the No. 7 Lambrick Park Lions. The Bruins never trailed in the contest with the Lions never able to creep closer than seven points. Cheyenna Wilson was the top scorer for the Bruins with 22 points while Amira Bimb had 13 for Lambrick Park.

#2 Holy Cross Crusaders 66 #15 Abbotsford Traditional Titans 41

The No. 2 seed Holy Cross Crusaders led from the get-go and advanced to the quarter-final round with a 66-41 win over the Abbotsford Traditional Titans. Holy Cross maintained a double-digit advantage for much of the night with Solene Jackson’s 16 points leading the way. Janeesh Sran and Taneesh Sran led the Titans with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

3A Tournament

While the top half of the draw saw the four higher seeds advance, there were a pair of upsets in the bottom half with both the No. 10 and 11 seeds moving on alongside the second and third seeds at the BC School Sports Girls 3A Basketball Provincial Championships at 91Ô­´´ Events Centre.

#1 Brookswood Bobcats 108 #16 Caledonia Kermodes 26

The top-seeded Brookswood Bobcats overpowered the Caledonia Kermodes 108-26 as the entire ‘Cats roster was able to get on the scoresheet. Grade 9 guard Jordyn Nohr led the way with 20 points while Mac Pogue scored 17. The 108 points was the second most in a 3A Girls Tournament game. Ella Poole’s 10 points led Caledonia.

#8 College Heights Cougars 50 #9 Clayton Heights Riders 35

Summer Toor nailed seven three-pointers, finishing with 23 points, as the College Heights Cougars opened with a 50-35 victory over the Clayton Heights Riders. It was a one-point game at the quarter break before the Cougars broke open the game, leading 29-17 at the half. Clayton Heights was led by 13 points from Emma Yarwood.

#4 M.E.I. Eagles 66 #13 Mark R. Isfeld Ice 55

Lola Reimer potted 14 of her 31 points in an explosive second quarter as the M.E.I. Eagles blew open their opening round game. The Eagles outscored the Mark R. Isfeld Ice 26-10 over those 10 minutes in a 66-55 victory. The Ice’s Elana Russell had 23 points in the loss.

#5 Reynolds Roadrunners 69 #12 Sa-Hali Sabres 41

The duo of Bella Graves (27 points) and Skyler Lubben (22 points) was too much as they Reynolds Roadrunners’ forward combo were able to use their height to account for 49 points in a 69-41 win over the Sa-Hali Sabres. Nevena Nogic countered with 16 for the Sabres.

#11 R.A. McMath Wildcats 50 #6 Duchess Park Condors 39

The R.A. McMath Wildcats locked things down defensively in the second half, holding the Duchess Park Condors to 13 points over the final 20 minutes in a 50-39 upset win for the No. 11 seed. After a scoreless first quarter, 6-3 forward Mirella Fernandes Boshell led the Wildcats with 18 points. Magdalena Malfair’s 12 points was Duchess Park’s top scorer.

#3 South Kamloops Titans 75 No. 14 Pitt Meadows Marauders 52

The South Kamloops Titans used their multitude of offensive weapons to overpower the Pitt Meadows Marauders 75-52. Kylee Koppes (25 points), Kiana Kaczur (19), Lucy Marchese (15) and Feron Wallace (13) each hit double hit figures in the victory. Pitt Meadows managed 11 three-pointers with Jocelyn Boyes scoring 22 for the Marauders.

#10 W.L. Seaton Sonics 56 #7 Robert Bateman Timberwolves #48

The W.L. Seaton Sonics were dominant in the fourth quarter, erasing a five-point deficit by outscoring the Robert Bateman Timberwolves 19-6 for the 56-48 comeback victory. Aimee Glasser led the Sonics with 16 points and Aleeya Ouch and Evelie Colclough each chipped in a dozen. Thalia Olay (with 11) and Erin Misura (with 10) were the top scorers for the Timberwolves.

#2 St. Michaels University School Blue Jags 67 #15 Little Flower Academy Angels 34

A 10-point game in the third quarter, the second-seeded St. Michaels University School Blue Jags rattled off 12 straight points on route to the 67-34 win over the Little Flower Academy Angels. Avery Geddes scored 20 to lead the Blue Jags while Avex Motherwell and Charlie Anderson added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Bella Heffring scored 18 for the Angels.

4A Tournament

The biggest upset on day one came in the BC School Sports Girls 4A Basketball Provincial Championships as the No. 12 seed took down No. 5 in a two-point game at the 91Ô­´´ Events Centre.

#1 Riverside Rapids 102 #16 Mount Baker Wild 24

Avery Sussex scored 34 points to lead the defending champion and No. 1 seed Riverside Rapids to an opening round 102-24 win over the Mount Baker Wild. Jorja Hart added 19 while Isla Kelly chipped in with 15 for the Rapids. Grade 10 guard Cyrene Pecpec had eight points to lead the Wild.

#8 Kelowna Owls 70 #9 Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs 56

After the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs pulled to within four points early in the fourth quarter, the Kelowna Owls dominated the rest of the period, pulling away for the 70-56 win the 8-9 matchup of the opening round. The senior trio of Morgan Clark (16 points), Emma Pinkerton (14) and Keira Eves (13) led a three-headed attack for the Owls while Grade 11 guard Ava Thiessen added nine, with all her points coming from beyond the arc. Louise Dykstra was unstoppable for the Bulldogs as the Grade 12 guard/forward finished with 30 points.

#4 Okanagan Mission Huskies 75 #13 Walnut Grove Gators 54

Two lengthy scoring runs proved to be the difference as the Okanagan Mission Huskies fended off an upset-attempt by the No. 13 Walnut Grove Gators. The Huskies were down 16-7 before they delivered a game-altering 26-2 run. To their credit, the Gators did have a rally of their own, cutting it to a six-point advantage, only to have the Huskies close with 15 of the final 17 points in a 75-56

Trailing 16-7 against an upset-seeking Walnut Grove Gators squad, the No. 4 Okanagan Mission Huskies were unstoppable in the second quarter with a game-changing 26-2 run. The Gators did have one rally of their own, cutting it to a six-point game in the fourth, only to have the Huskies score the final 15 points of the contest.

#12 Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers 77 No. 5 Burnaby Central Wildcats 75

The biggest upset of day one came courtesy of the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers who knocked off the No. 5 seed Burnaby Central Wildcats 77-75. The Panthers were down three points with 10 minutes to play before taking their first lead at 61-59 since scoring the game’s first basket. Grade 10 guard Hanna Grewal had 27 points, Grade 11 guard Saavyn Mann had 21 and Grade 11 guard chipped in with 19. The Wildcats’ Ankita Chopra led all scorers with 30 and Sophia Morton finished with 17.

#6 G.W. Graham Grizzlies 68 #11 Charles Best Blue Devils 54

Ashlyn Adams scored 18 and Jada Paquin added 16 as the G.W. Graham Grizzlies were 68-54 winners over the Charles Best Blue Devils. Jessica Parkinson led the Blue Devils with 18 while Denise Mendoza had 17.

#3 Seaquam Seahawks 94 #14 Claremont Spartans 38

The Seaquam Seahawks were dominant on both sides of the court, holding the Claremont Spartans to 10 points in the second half of a 94-38 victory. Camryn Tait had 18 points, Syra Toor scored 17 (including five three-pointers) and Iria Etxezarraga added 14. All three are in Grade 10 for a young Seahawks squad which features just two Grade 12s. Claremont was led by 19 points from Iva Kalabric.

#7 Yale Lions 84 #10 Oak Bay Breakers 47

The Yale Lions opened with the game’s first 24 points as they cruised to the 84-47 victory over the Oak Bay Breakers. Six Lions players reached double figures with Ella Bonn’s 20 leading the way while Kendal Dueck was second on the team with 16. Eden Henderson was tops on the Breakers with 20.

#2 Argyle Pipers 106 #15 North Peace Grizzlies 24

The Argyle Pipers were 106-54 winners over the North Peace Grizzlies to close out the 4A opening round bracket. Reece Tam and Mariia Maydan each had 19 for the Pipers with Hayley Copes scoring 12 for the Grizzlies.
