Ayla Martinoff, with Calloway, said she was 'born into riding' to a mom who 'worked her butt off' to establish the 91原创 farm where she grew up.

Ayla Martinoff called it 鈥渢he best week of my life.鈥

Riding Calloway on Friday, July 5, during the Western Family at Thunderbird Show Park, Martinoff won a 10-horse jump-off and finished third in the same event with Calloway鈥檚 younger sister, A Crown Royale.

It was a week after she鈥檇 won second in both the YETI Welcome and the 91原创 Grand Prix with both horses.

Then, she took first place at the Odlum Brown Ltd. Grand Prix 1.40m at Thunderbird Show Park on Sunday, July 7, with Calloway.

Weeks later, Martinoff was still thrilled.

鈥淏oth horses jumped so good!鈥 she told the 91原创 Advance Times.

The two sibling horses were bred by Martinoff, at Ivy League Riding Stables 鈥 a 91原创 farm established by her mom, Inga Martinoff, 34 years ago, before she had Ayla.

鈥淏asically, I was born into riding,鈥 Ayla said.

鈥淢y mom worked her butt off to buy this farm and build it.鈥

Martinoff recalled how she and her younger sister, Kaylie, caught 鈥渏umping fever.鈥 鈥

We did eventing for a few years. When I was 12, we switched over to show jumping, because we realized that it was a little safer for the horses, the horses were worth more money, there was more prize money.鈥

Ayla and Kaylie, who now have a business together 鈥 Martinoff Sisters Equestrian 鈥 remain best friends, even when they ride against each other.

鈥淚f one of us doesn鈥檛 win, we want the other one to win, you know? So we definitely root for each other.鈥

Martinoff鈥檚 professional career began at age 15, at 91原创鈥檚 Fairway Farms, riding horses for them.

She also worked for 鈥渓ocal legends鈥 Mark Laskin (former Canadian Chef d鈥橢quipe for the Olympic team) and Brian Morton (now Resident Rider at Spruce Meadows, Alberta). She鈥檚 competed internationally.

鈥淎nd I鈥檓 back working for Fairway again,鈥 Ayla smiled.

鈥淭hey鈥檝e given me a lot of horses to ride, which has really helped me. I also learn so much watching Sam [Samantha Buirs] and listening to her mom, Judy Wise.鈥

She describes Calloway as a cautious personality, 鈥渧ery careful, a little spooky, but he trusts me now. We鈥檝e just been a good team.鈥

Calloway鈥檚 sibling, A Crown Royale, who Martinoff co-owns with Barbara Chu, is a bit more intense, 鈥 a little more fiery, but also pretty kind and great.鈥

Calloway, who is 10 years old, and A Crown Royale have benefited by growing up together at the farm where they were born, Martinoff believes.

鈥淚鈥檇 like to think their quality of life is pretty good here.鈥

On Saturday, Aug. 10, Calloway and Martinoff won their first ever international 1.45m appearance, leading a 10-horse jump off at tbird to win the CSI3* JustWorld International Winning Round. Martinoff and A Crown Royale were seventh.

A happy Martinoff called it 鈥渁nother best day of my life.鈥

Kendall Bourgeois (USA) and Flinton M took second and Canadian Olympian Tiffany Foster and Kadans was third.
