Surrey Eagles soar in game two to even series

Best-of-seven series tied at one after 6-1 Surrey victory

The Surrey Eagles struck back in game two.

The Eagles evened their best-of-seven playoff series at one game apiece thanks to a 6-1 win on Tuesday night at the South Surrey Arena over the 91原创 Chiefs.

Surrey raced out to a 3-0 first period lead and led 5-0 before the Chiefs finally got on the board.

The loss was the first in the playoffs for 91原创, which was coming off a four-game sweep in the opening round and then a 4-3 victory in Monday's game one.

Games three and four of the BCHL Coastal Conference semifinal series go Thursday (March 10) and Friday (March 11) at the 91原创 Events Centre.

Game five is back at the South Surrey Arena on Sunday.

All three begin at 7 p.m.

The Eagles fired 18 pucks on Wyatt Galley in the first period alone, and took a 3-0 lead into the intermission thanks to goals from Colton Mackie, Tyler Morley and Robert Lindores.

Scott Holm and Daniel Gentzler stretched the lead to 5-0 before Austin Plevy potted his first of the playoffs to break Karel St. Laurent's shutout bid.

Hayden Trupp had the only goal of the third, the Eagles' third power-play tally of the game. Surrey went 3-for-9 with the man advantage compared to 91原创's 0-for-5.

The Eagles outshot the Chiefs 48-27, with 91原创 backup Cole Huggins getting his first post-season action, stopping 15 of the 16 shots he faced in the third period.

The third period featured five game misconducts and two fights.

A pair of 91原创 Minor Hockey products made their presence known on the scoresheet for the Eagles, as Brad McGowan and Josh Monk each had three assists.

McGowan passed the Chiefs' Matt Ius for the playoff scoring lead, as he had 14 points, one ahead of the 91原创 forward.
