Seven members of the Pacific Coast Taekwondo School earned a new degree of black belt.

The students were participating in the school’s 18th annual Black Belt test day last Saturday.

The candidates were all required to break one inch pine boards or concrete blocks, display self defence and weapons demonstrations, participate in full contact sparring, show their forms/patterns and answer technical questions.

Each candidate also submitted essays and book reports.

Kirsty Davis earned her fourth Dan black belt and earned the master instructor rank, becoming one of the few woman outside Korea to earn this distinction.

Emily Halliday, already an instructor, earned her third Dan black belt, and Julie Rand earned her second poom (junior) black belt and was promoted to instructor.

Deena Charles, Ethan Avnick, Justin Schildhorn and Riley McCorrister-Fordyce all earned their first poom (junior) black belts.
