The 91原创 Stampeders exacted a measure of revenge on the Victoria Spartans.
Last season, the Spartans upset the undefeated Stampeders in the opening round of the Vancouver Mainland Football League playoffs and went on to win the provincial title.
The two teams met again on Sunday afternoon at McLeod Park and 91原创 rode a strong defensive effort to win 28-7.
After a scoreless first half, Victoria got on the board with at touchdown to open the second half. But after that, 91原创 dominated the rest of the way, thanks to some key plays at crucial times.
The first came when Kyle Campagna blocked a field goal attempt with Justin Brown recovering the loose ball.
And while that did not result in any points, Campagna鈥檚 second turnover did.
Kyle Griffioen and Brayden Norcliffe teamed up to strip the Victoria quarterback of the ball, which Campagna recovered.
After quarterback Cody McMurchy ran to the one-yard line, Matt Bilmer found the end zone on the next play.
Special teams made the next big play as Reagan Doucette returned a punt into Victoria territory and Kalen McMurchy scored two players later on a 27-yard run.
Doucette then found the end zone himself with a 41-yard run and also sealed the scoring with an interception return of 109 yards.
The Mustangs (6-3) close the regular season this weekend. With a victory, the team will finish fourth in the Vancouver Mainland Football League and would earn a first-round playoff bye.
