Sports groups cash in

91原创 sports and community groups will share $65,935 in the latest round of gaming grants released by the provincial government.

They beneficiaries are the 91原创 Minor Football Association, which will receive $32,000, the 91原创 Flippers Swim Club ($25,100), the 91原创 Mustangs Track Club ($7,740) and Douglas Park Community School PAC ($1,095).

鈥淭hese organizations encourage the youth of 91原创 to lead active and healthy lives,鈥 said 91原创 MLA Mary Polak.

鈥淲ith this investment, families will continue to benefit from their exemplary community work.鈥

The 91原创 associations are among 146 recipients across the province sharing $3,161,195 in this latest round of grants from gaming revenue. The grants are the first from provincial gaming revenue announced for the new fiscal year, which began on April 1, 2011.

Beneficiaries cover a broad range of community interests, including sports, arts and culture, festivals, and parent advisory and district parent advisory councils.

In 2010/11, the government distributed $135 million in gaming grants for eligible community programs and services. The original budget called for $120 million, but in April Premier Christy Clark boosted funding for the program by $15 million.
