Molly Fischer鈥檚 mother Stephanie has been a reluctant witness to her daughter鈥檚 fighting skills.

鈥淪he has a hard time watching me get punched in the face,鈥 observed Fischer, a 19-year-old boxer from Aldergrove with a promising future.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 know why,鈥 Fischer, her mother鈥檚 only child, laughed.

Despite that, and even though she sometimes winces at the bruises Fischer can collect during a bout, the supportive Stephanie has attended her daughter鈥檚 fights.

Fischer, fighting in the 126 lb. weight class, won her most recent bout on April 23, at Savard鈥檚 Boxing in Surrey, where she dominated a three-round fight with former sparring partner Amanda Dodds of Ibarra Boxing.

鈥淚 was more nervous than I was at my first fight,鈥 Fischer recalled, but her jitters went away when the bout began.

鈥淭here鈥檚 no time to be nervous when you鈥檙e in the ring,鈥 she remarked.

Fischer went on to win all three rounds against Dodds.

Fischer confesses her initial inspiration for boxing was the Rocky movies, and Sylvester Stallone鈥檚 portrayal of a dogged fighter of limited talent who perseveres through sheer determination and hard work, something she identifies with.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 think I鈥檓 naturally gifted,鈥 Fischer observed.

Fischer trains out of 91原创 City Boxing, the same club that produced Sarah Pucek and Alisah McPhee, fighters who both won Canadian championships, and, in Pucek鈥檚 case, went on to win the British Commonwealth and North American Boxing Federation championships.

Fischer鈥檚 coach, James Allison, who has worked with her since she was 14, thinks she could turn pro.

鈥淪he鈥檚 been doing well,鈥 Allison summarized.

鈥淪he鈥檚 very tough and very much willing to take a punch,鈥 Allision commented.

鈥淭hat鈥檚 not a bad thing. You can鈥檛 be afraid to get hit.鈥

鈥淚 would love to go pro,鈥 Fischer remarked.

鈥淎ny boxer would.鈥

Her other plans include studying to become a sport nutritionist, and she would love to own a gym one day.
