Looking over their roster at the start of the season, coaches Ian Smith and Terry McHale were unsure of what they had talent-wise.
鈥淲e thought we had a mediocre team,鈥 admitted McHale, the assistant coach. 鈥淏ut about a third of the way or half way through the regular season, we realized these boys have a lot of potential.
鈥淭hey worked hard and were very committed and now are reaping the benefits of their work.鈥
The pair coach the 91原创 United Youth Soccer Association U12 Bronze 99 Rage.
And after the team of 11-year-olds finished runners-up in the league play to another local squad, the 91原创 United Rangers, the Rage caught fire.
The team went 4-0 in Cup play to win that title, and then wrapped up their season with another title, this time at the South Burnaby Metro Soccer tournament over the weekend.
The Rage were 2-0-1 and despite having a tie, they won their age group thanks to a greater goal differential. In fact, the team did not allow a single goal against in their three games.
McHale said the team鈥檚 skill level has doubled or tripled since the start of the year.
