91Ô´´ Chiefs' Josh Myers goes in alone on Alberni Valley Bulldogs' goalie Frank Slubowski 55 seconds into overtime in Game 4 of their B.C. Hockey League playoffs, Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Myers failed to score on the play, but Josh Hansen scored for 91Ô´´ nine minutes later to win the game 6-5 and the series 4-0.

Josh Hansen scored 9:37 into overtime to send the 91Ô´´ Chiefs through to the second round.

On the forecheck, Mike Tebbutt and Kody Dhaliwal forced a turnover and Hansen jumped on the loose puck, came out of the corner and beat Alberni Valley Bulldogs goaltender Frank Slubowski with a backhander which went top shelf.

Hansen's goal gave the Chiefs a 6-5 victory on Tuesday night at Port Alberni's Weyerhaeuser Arena in game four of the best-of-seven BCHL Coastal Conference playoff series.

The Chiefs also won game one in overtime, 5-4, while they took games two and three, 3-1 and 5-1.

"Our execution," said Chiefs coach and general manager Harvey Smyl, when asked what the difference in the series was.

"We executed our opportunities more than they did."

His Alberni Valley counterpart agreed with that assessment.

"Full credit to 91Ô´´, they scored some timely goals and deserved to win the series," said Alberni Valley head coach and general manager Paul Esdale.

"They (Chiefs) capitalized on their opportunities. They're a dangerous team offensively."

Brad McBride got the visitors on the board two minutes into the contest, before the Bulldogs struck back with goals from Connor Varley and Josh Mitchell.

Mitchell's goal marked Alberni Valley's first lead of the series.

But it was short-lived as 35 seconds later Matt Ius tied the score at two.

Casey Bailey gave the ’Dogs a 3-2 lead seven minutes into the second, but again, 91Ô´´ had an answer as captain Trevor Gerling tied the score 49 seconds later.

And before the period let out, Ius put the Chiefs up 4-3.

Ius completed the hat trick with a power-play goal 6:32 into the second before Alberni Valley scored twice — Bailey and Lars Hepso — 2:09 apart to force overtime.

91Ô´´ went 2-for-6 with the man advantage, and after two games of killing off all the Alberni Valley power plays, the Chiefs penalty kill gave up three goals on 10 chances.

For the series, Alberni Valley scored six of their 11 games while a man up.

"Our penalty kill has to be better," Smyl warned. "We didn't go a great job."

For the fourth time in as many games, Alberni Valley had the advantage on the shot clock, firing 51 pucks at Wyatt Galley.

The Chiefs scored their six goals on 47 shots.

Smyl said that while the Bulldogs won the shot clock battle, he didn't put much stock into that as Alberni Valley was throwing pucks on net from everywhere and hoping to capitalize on the rebounds.

He did come away impressed with the play of Galley.

Galley finished the series with a 2.48 goals against average (fourth in the BCHL) and a .936 save percentage (third).

Ius is tied for second in playoff scoring with nine points in four games.

91Ô´´ faces a familiar foe in the second round, the Surrey Eagles, who swept the Coquitlam Express.

Games one and two are at the South Surrey Arena on Monday (March 7) and Tuesday (March 8). Games three and four are at the 91Ô´´ Events Centre on Thursday (March 10) and Friday (March 11).

During the regular season, the Eagles won the season series six games to three, with two of the Surrey victories coming in overtime.

The Eagles were second in the Coastal Conference with 73 points (35-22-1-2), three points ahead of 91Ô´´ (31-21-1-7).
