Olympians capture 23 medals

91Ô­´´ swimmers have strong showing at pair of meets

It was a strong showing for members of the 91Ô­´´ Olympians at a pair of swim meets earlier this month.

Seventeen club members were at the B.C. AA long course championships in Richmond while another 17 were at the Lower Mainland regional championships at the Walnut Grove Aquatic Centre.

At the AA championships, Tyler Friesen won four gold (200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 400 freestyle and 100 freestyle), a silver medal (50 freestyle) and one bronze (100 backstroke) in the boys’ 11 and under category.

And Reagen Bedard, Reese Vlunden, Milana Solar and Emily Manley won gold in the 14 and over 200 freestyle relay.

Taking silver at the meet were Brayden Herbert (400 IM), John Park (200 IM) and Alicia Schmelcher (400 IM) for their respective age groups.

Park also won a pair of bronze medals (1500 freestyle and 400 freestyle), while Herbert (200 breaststroke) also won one bronze. And Ayush Kaul (400 IM and 200 backstroke) also won a pair of bronze medals.

And at the Lower Mainland regional championships, Hilary Paik led the way with a gold (400 IM) and silver (200 IM), part of eight medals LOSC swimmers captured.

April St. Pierre (50 breastroke), Sienna Harder (400 freestyle) and Riley Laine (400 freestyle) also won gold while Paik, Nina Eig, Erin Moloney and Sophie Nazareno won silver in the 12 and over 200 medley relay.

St. Pierre also won bronze in the 200 breaststroke while Sam Stewart-Beinder won bronze in the 400 freestyle.
