Several young local golfers performed well at tournament held Aug. 15-16 at Green Tee Country Club in 91原创.

Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour conducted the two-day MJT BC Order of Merit (OOM) Series tournament under sunny skies, where junior golfers aged 19 and under teed off on one of the driest and best-conditioned courses in the Lower Mainland.

With six division titles and crucial MJT Order of Merit points at stake, the competition was fierce, and every swing also brought age-eligible players closer to securing a coveted spot in the prestigious Champion of Champions 2025 at Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen, United Kingdom, an MJT release notes.

While 91原创's Ryan LePrieur, 15, secured low overall title among the boys divisions after he scored 67 on Day One, Surrey golfer Blake Newell, 17, finished first in the MJT Junior Boys division, scoring 71 and 79 for a total of 150.

Newell sank six birdies over two rounds to secure a commanding five-shot lead.

"I had a career low the day before, so I was confident," Newell shared. "I'm glad I had another under-par round," he added, reflecting on his strong performance.

He was followed closely by 18-year-old Gavin Giesbrecht, also from Surrey, who golfed 75 and 76 for a total of 151 during the two-day tournament.

In other divisions, 91原创's Jay You, 14, placed first in MJT Bantam Boys with a 143 total score, with Delta's Yujun (Tiger) Du, 13, placing third with a 149 total.

Surrey's Jackson Wang, 12, golfed a total of 146 to place third in the MJT Peewee Boys division, while Delta's Katie Chhem, 16, golfed a total score of 216 to place second in the MJT Girls 15-19 division.
