Forsyth among elite invitees

Brookswood Secondary Grade 12 student will play for Canadian all-star team against American counterparts

Louise Forsyth is set to go up against the best after being chosen to compete in the 2017 Across Border Global Games.

The game pits some of the best high school basketball players in North America with Canada taking on their U.S. counterparts.

The game 鈥 by invitation only 鈥 will be played May 6 at the Rise Centre in Brantford, Ont.

鈥淏eing selected is an amazing opportunity,鈥 Forsyth said. 鈥淚 am so grateful and honoured to play in this event and can鈥檛 wait to get on the court.鈥

鈥淭he Across Border Global Games will prove to be a venue to showcase the best in women鈥檚 high school basketball on an international platform,鈥 said director of ABGG Canada Jim Wilson, in a press release.

鈥淭he landscape of women鈥檚 basketball is changing at a rapid rate.

鈥淚dentifying these young, talented athletes will be an instrumental part of bringing awareness globally to support and promote women鈥檚 basketball.鈥

The 18-year-old helped the Brookswood Bobcats finish third in March at the B.C. 3A senior girls provincial championships, earning first team all-star honours. She was also named the .

Forsyth played all five seasons of high school on the senior team, amassing three gold, a silver and a bronze medal.

Forsyth, who graduates from Brookswood in June, is off to Spokane鈥 Gonzaga University in the fall on a basketball scholarship.

鈥淟ouise is a high level shooter. She has an amazing work ethic and such an eagerness to learn,鈥 Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier said on the school鈥檚 website, back in November. 鈥淪he brings great length to the wing, which we will utilize heavily on defence.

鈥淟ou is very comfortable playing at a fast pace.

鈥淪he will be able to stretch the defence and allow us to continue to work inside out.鈥

Forsyth is also hoping to represent Canada for a third straight summer this July as she attempts to make the Canadian junior women鈥檚 national team.
