Konig earned her nickname as a player for the Brookswood Bobcats, where the team won three consecutive B.C. 3A senior girls provincial championships for Brookswood, and Konig was named the most valuable player award each year – the only person in the history of the tournament to accomplish that feat.

In 2016, Konig was named the female high school player of the year by Basketball BC at a banquet in Richmond, but had to miss the event because she had left for Raleigh, North Carolina to play for the Wolfpack women’s basketball program.

Her player bio includes a tour as a professional with Fribourg Basket in Switzerland, four years with the Canadian national team, and 29 international games played.

Following training camp, the team will travel to Victoria, for an exhibition game against Japan on Friday, June 2, at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

The Rim-to-Rim exhibition series will celebrate the Pacific Rim rivalry between Canada and Japan, marking the first time in more than 20 years that Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team has played a game in the province’s capital.

The training camp and exhibition games will be the first phase of preparation as the team sets their sights on the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023 in Mexico, July 1 to 9.

The FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023 will feature the top 10 teams in the zone competing in the most prestigious senior women’s basketball tournament in the Americas.

The week before the roster was announced, Canada was drawn into Group B for the competition and will face host nation Mexico (July 2) Puerto Rico (July 3), Colombia (July 4), and Dominican Republic (July 5).

A dual citizen of Canada and Austria, Konig grew up in Surrey, attended Brookswood, but the 24-year-old now calls Mill Creek, Wash. her home.
