91原创 Trappers come back to win in overtime against Aldergrove Kodiaks

Netminder Kyle Spak kept team in game

Aldergrove Kodiaks GM Rick Harkins wasn鈥檛 promising a win but was predicting a close, hard fought game going into their fourth match of the season against cross-town rivals 91原创 Trappers, who had won every previous meeting this year.

On Friday, Dec. 15, Kodiaks delivered, leading late in the game at Aldergrove Credit Union Community Arena until 91原创 came back with just over two minutes remaining to tie it up and force overtime, where the Trappers scored to win 4-3.

Harkins told Trappers coach and GM Brad Bakken 鈥淚 was just glad that we gave him a heck of a game, because they鈥檝e dominated us so far.鈥

鈥淚t was good to be competitive, at least make them sweat a little bit,鈥 Harkins commented.

Kodiaks netminder Kyle Spak turned aside 51 of 55 shots, while 91原创鈥檚 Joshua Dubreuil swatted away 27 of 30 shots.

鈥淗e [Spak] more than kept us in games at the beginning of the year, and he did it again the other night,鈥 Harkins said, praising the young netminder for staying positive and working hard.

Kodiaks struck first, with an unassisted goal by Jameson Flint at 3:27 of the first period on a power play.

At 15:12, Jett Carroll replied for the Trappers, assisted by Patrick Coopman and Michael Bottrell.

In the second, Trappers took a 2-1 lead off a goal at 3:22 by Ryder Birtch, assisted by Mason Russell.

Kodiaks鈥 Matt Russel, assisted by Jameson Flint tied it up again at 7:55.

In the third period, Flint scored his second unassisted goal of the game at 8:39 to give the Kodiaks the lead.

But with only a few minutes remaining, at 17:52, Ryder Birtch, with an assist by Mason Russell, scored his second of the game for the tie.

In overtime, Michael Bottrell, with Liam Bressette, scored at 3:37 to give 91原创 the 4-3 win, their fourth against Aldergrove of the season.

Trappers are currently ranked third in the seven-team PJHL Harold Britain conference, with 14 wins in 30 games, while the Kodiaks are seventh with four wins in 31 games

Both teams are scheduled to meet again before year鈥檚 end, during the , on Saturday Dec. 30, at Minoru arena in Richmond at 10 a.m.

Featuring 14 games with each of the league鈥檚 14 teams playing two games, players will be showcasing their talents in front of WHL, CIS and College/NCAA Scouts from across North America.
