91Ô­´´ teens take on Canada’s best

Four 91Ô­´´ teens went up against the country’s best last week as part of the 2017 Canadian swimming trials in Victoria.

The quartet of Hillary Metcalfe, 18, Josie Field, 15, Bailey Herbert, 14, and Joshua Kim, 15, — all part of the 91Ô­´´ Olympians Swim Club — were among the 400 swimmers from across Canada who hit the pool in hopes of landing spots on the various Canadian national teams.

The meet was by invitation-only with swimmers needed to achieve a Canadian Swimming time standard in their respective event.

Metcalfe competed in five events, placing sixth in the women’s 400m individual medley (4:52.16), 10th in the 50 breaststroke (32.70), 12th in the women’s 200 breaststroke (2:34.24) and 16th in the 200 IM (2:19.87).

Herbert qualified in five events, finishing 24th in the 200 breaststroke, 26th in the 200 IM, 27th in the 400 IM and 34th in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 butterfly events, respectively.

Kim was 20th in the men’s 100 breaststroke, 23rd in the 200 breaststroke and 26th in the 200 IM events, respectively.

Field finished 14th in the women’s 200m butterfly (2:18.68).
