91原创 softball star laces up for Canada Cup in Surrey

For once, 91原创鈥檚 Morgan Reimer will have the chance to represent her country on home soil as she competes in the upcoming Canada Cup Women鈥檚 International Softball Championship.

This annual tournament will bring 1,500 athletes from all over the world to Surrey to compete across five divisions, making this the largest international fastpitch tournament in Canada.

鈥淭he Canada Cup has always provided us with the ability to compete against the best players in the world while sharing our passion for the game with our fellow Canadians. It has been instrumental in elevating and growing the game of softball across the country.鈥

The U19 Futures Select and U17 Showcase Select divisions will kick off their games on Friday, July 7, and will involve several local teams, including Ridge Meadows Pride 06, Ridge Meadows Pride 07, and Ridge Meadows Rage 05.

The U19 Futures Gold and U17 Showcase Gold will then play some exhibition games on Saturday and Sunday before starting the round-robin matches on Monday, July 10, with Ridge Meadows Pride U17 representing the cities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

In the Women鈥檚 International division, Team Canada will have an exhibition game against Team Japan on July 8, followed by another exhibition game against Team Israel the next day.

July 10 will mark the start of the round-robin, with Team Canada playing seven games before entering the playoffs on Saturday, July 15.

Greg Timm, Canada Cup chair, explained that this year鈥檚 tournament will bring together the best of the best softball players in the world.

鈥淔rom the top national teams to the elite club teams, we anticipate an incredibly strong tournament across all divisions,鈥 said Timm.

鈥淎dditionally, we are thrilled to have our Gold Division teams competing for a spot in the Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series. It will create our most competitive event ever.鈥

Reimer will be one of 10 B.C. athletes on the Team Canada roster, with the full list including:

This will be Reimer鈥檚 first Canada Cup as a member of Team Canada. The 91原创 pitcher was the youngest Team BC member at last year鈥檚 Canada Cup, where she helped her team win the U19 Futures Gold title.

The 2023 Canada Cup will take place at Softball City, 2201 148 St. in Surrey, and will wrap up on July 16.
