Kodiaks keep playoff hopes alive

The Aldergrove Kodiaks scored a huge win on Wednesday night, pulling to within two points of the final playoff spot.

The junior B hockey team downed the Mission Icebreakers 5-1 at the Aldergrove Arena.

Mitchell Guiel had a goal and an assist, while goaltender Ross Baadsvik was sensational, earning first star honours for his 47-save effort. In the team's previous game, a 2-1 overtime loss, he made 38 saves.

The victory was huge for Aldergrove as it pulled them within two points of Mission for fourth spot in the PIJHL's Harold Brittain Conference. Just six games remain in the regular season.

Eric McEwan and Matthew Liggett struck for first period power play goals and Aldergrove never looked back.

Matt Garb and Guiel scored four minutes apart in the second period.

Mission's Keagan Hunter broke Baadsvik's shutout bid in the third, before Colton Precourt restored the four-goal advantage.

The Kodiaks are back in action Wednesday (Feb. 9) as they host the Ridge Meadows Flames. The Flames sit in third, five points ahead of Aldergrove.
