Kodiaks fall in season opener

The Kodiaks were leading 2-1 but a flurry of goals late in the second half of the third period ended the game 4-2 for the Hawks.

The Delta Ice Hawks scored three times in the third period to defeat the Aldergrove Kodiaks 4-2.

The junior B hockey clubs were playing the Pacific International Junior Hockey League season opener on Wednesday at the Aldergrove Arena.

Robert Genge gave the Kodiaks a 2-1 lead early in the second, but Delta got goals from Alex Martin, Aaron Merrick and Mitchell Pacey to get the victory.

Colton Precourt opened the scoring in the second period for the hosts before Merrick tied the score 17 seconds later.

Kodiaks goalie Mark Menicucci made 39 saves and was the game's third star.

Aldergrove is in action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they visit the Port Moody Black Panthers. The Kodiaks next home game is Sept. 28 at the Aldergrove Arena against the Ridge Meadows Flames.
