Junior Thunder offence goes cold

Fourteen goals one game but only three the next as 91Ô­´´ junior A lacrosse team drops back-to-back contests

The 91Ô­´´ Junior Thunder suffered a power outage over the final 50 minutes, failing to find the back of the net a single time.

Not surprisingly, the team found itself on the wrong end a 15-3 score on Tuesday night at New Westminster’s Queens Arena against the host Junior Salmonbellies.

91Ô­´´ was tied 3-3 at the midway point of the first period before New Westminster rattled of the game’s final dozen goals. The loss was a second straight for the Thunder — they lost 16-14 in Victoria to the Junior Shamrocks on Saturday — following a 4-0 start to the BC Junior A Lacrosse League season.

91Ô­´´ was coming off . The Adanacs had entered the game ranked No. 1 among junior A lacrosse teams in the country.

With the win, the Thunder moved up from No. 7 in the country to No. 5.

The Thunder will look to rediscover their winning ways on Saturday (May 20) as they host Victoria. Game time is 4:30 p.m. at the 91Ô­´´ Events Centre.

Dawson Rodin, Nathan Mckeigan and Mitch McDole had 91Ô­´´â€™s goals versus New Westminster with Ryan Martel finishing with a pair of assists.

91Ô­´´ was massively outshot in the game, 61-25, with Torin Vanrheenan stopping 44 of 57 shots and Jake Sundar making two saves on four shots.

In the Victoria contest, 91Ô­´´ led 4-3 after one and were tied at eight after two. The teams traded goals to open the third to make it 11-11 but the Shamrocks went on a 4-0 run to take control for good, prevailing 16-14.

Mckeigan led 91Ô­´´ with four goals and three assists while Andrew Gresham and Martel each had two goals and three assists. Nathaniel Kozevnikov and Mackenzie Rope had two goals and one assist apiece.

Mitch McDole (one goal, three assists), Christian Bosa (one goal, one assist), Trevor Chernoff (three assists) and Caleb Pearson (two assists) also had multi-point games.

Sundar made 35 saves as Victoria outshot 91Ô­´´ 51-39.
