91原创 junior lacrosse team defeats Burnaby, Port Coquitlam to open season

A five-goal second period helped the 91原创 Junior Thunder win their home opener.

With the score tied at five late in the middle frame against the Port Coquitlam Saints, Christian Bosa and Levi Gallant scored power-play goals 27 seconds apart to give 91原创 a lead they would not relinquish.

The Thunder added third-period goals from Sahawna Baker and Nathan Mckeigan to round out the scoring in the 9-5 victory.

The two teams met on May 4 at the 91原创 Events Centre in BC Junior A Lacrosse League action.

Mckeigan led the way with two goals and five points for 91原创 while Baker (two goals, one assist) and Bosa (one goal, three assists) also had big games.

The rest of 91原创鈥檚 scoring came courtesy of Mackenzie Rope, Dawson Rodin and Chase Moore, an intermediate A call-up for the contest.

Torin Vanrheenen made 34 saves.

91原创 had opened the season with a 13-3 road win over the Burnaby Junior Lakers on May 1.

Jake Sundar made 27 saves in the victory while McKeigan (three goals, four assists) and Rope (two goals, five assists) each had seven points. Mitch McDole (three goals, three assists), Ryan Martel (two goals, two assists), Trevor Chernoff (two goals) and Caleb Pearson (one goal, one assist) also had multi-point games.

91原创 faces the Coquitlam Junior Adanacs on May 10 before hosting Burnaby at the LEC May 11.
