Signing with the Vancouver Giants is the first step towards realizing a dream for 2001-born defenceman Parker Hendren.

The Western Hockey League club, which plays its home games at the 91ԭ Events Centre, inked Hendren to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

The Giants selected Hendren in the seventh round of the 2016 WHL bantam draft.

“We have been very happy with Parker’s development,” Giants general manager Glen Hanlon said.

“We made it a priority to sign Parker because of his improved play from start to finish last season. By signing Parker, we will now be able to personally work with him to help him take the next step to the WHL level.”

Hendren, a Regina product, played midget AAA for the Regina Pat Canadians in 2016/17, tallying 15 points in 43 games. He helped the Pat Canadians to the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League championship and a spot in the Telus Cup, Canada’s national midget tournament.

“It means a lot to me,” said Hendren of inking with the G-Men. “I’m really excited. I’ve always dreamt about playing in the WHL, so it means a lot.”
