Golden time for Blues in Saskatchewan

It was the Fraser Valley Blues who left the competition singing the blues.

The U14 Fraser Valley Volleyball Association boys’ team was crowned national champion in Saskatchewan over the weekend.

The team did not drop a single set in their nine matches.

The Blues, who went a perfect 6-0 in pool play, defeated the Victoria Lansdowne Flyers 2-0 (25-13,25-22) in a rematch of the previous weekend’s provincial championship final.

They also defeated the country’s top-ranked team — Winnipeg’s 204 Gold — in the quarter-finals and then beat another Winnipeg squad, the Winman Tide, in the semifinals.

91Ô´´â€™s Steven Hsu was a force offensively, with 25 kills, four aces and 18 digs.

Beating the Flyers for the gold medal in back-to-back tournaments was especially sweet for the Blues, as the Victoria club was the only U14 team to defeat the Fraser Valley club.

Fraser Valley ended the season with a mark of 39-12, with 11 of the losses coming against U15 and U16 squads.
