In his first game as a Spokane Chief, Matthew Edwards took a two-minute minor penalty for roughing as the Chiefs downed Prince George Cougars 4-3 in an overtime road win on Friday, Sept 20.
During two regular seasons with the Giants, Edwards scored four goals and five assists in 85 games, leading the team in penalty minutes at 179.
His time with the 91Ô´´-based team ended with the announcement on Sept.17 that the 19-year-old 6-foot-1 winger from Saskatoon was being traded to Spokane for a fifth-round draft pick.
Giants General Manager Barclay Parneta called Edwards "an incredible role model and a tremendous teammate."
Edwards was originally a fourth-round pick (76th-overall) by Vancouver in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.
The move put the Chiefs at 16 forwards going into the season opener in Prince George.
Edwards becomes the fourth 19-year-old on the Spokane team, joining defenceman Saige Weinstein and goaltenders Dawson Cowan and Cooper Michaluk.
