Walnut Grove's De'Sean Monsanto dribbles the ball up court during his team's game against the Vancouver College Fighting Irish on Wednesday at the 91原创 Events Centre. The Gators lost that game, but bounced back to win on Thursday against the Gleneagle Talons.

The Walnut Grove Gators rebounded from their opening round loss in a big way.

The Gators were absolutely dominant in Thursday's first half, building a 42-13 lead after the opening 20 minutes against the Gleneagle Talons.

The two senior boys' basketball teams were playing on the consolation side of the B.C. high school AAA championships at the 91原创 Events Centre.

And the Gators were impressive, racing out to a 23-4 lead and never looking back, emerging with the 69-44 victory.

Larry Blyth and Paul Getz each had 17 points, while Derek Muxworthy had 14.

The Gators shot 49 per cent from the field, while holding Gleneagle to just 29 per cent.

Walnut Grove had lost their opening round game 76-62 to the Vancouver College Fighting Irish. The Gators led 34-29 at the half, but were done in by a poor third quarter, which saw them fall behind by five and they could not recover.

Blyth had 23 points and 17 rebounds in the loss.

Walnut Grove can still finish as high as sixth.

They will face the Oak Bay Bays on Friday (March 18) at 2:30 p.m.
