Double gold for 91原创 junior pentathletes

91原创 boasts both the junior boys and girls pentathlon provincial champions.

Walnut Grove鈥檚 Holly Harrison won the junior girls pentathlon title while Credo Christian鈥檚 Ian Vandergugten came through with the junior boys title.

The athletes were competing on May 26 and 27 at South Surrey Athletic Park in the B.C. high school track and field multi-sport championships. The rest of the provincial championships run June 1 to 3 at McLeod Athletic Park.

Harrison scored 3,020 points over the five event, beating Handsworth鈥檚 Anna Parsakish for the gold medal by 156 points.

91原创 Fundamental鈥檚 Sheleena Wiley brought home the bronze medal with 2,798 points.

Walnut Grove鈥檚 Shaunika Suriya was 11th with 2,150 points while Credo Christian鈥檚 Kassidy VanOene was 12th with 2,121 points.

Harrison won the 80m hurdles (12.53) and high jump (1.54m) and was third in the shot put (9.36m) and long jump (4.64m). She was fourth in the 800m (2:33.70) and 10th in the high jump (1.39m).

On the boys side, Vandergugten scored 3,148 points to top Island Pacific School鈥檚 Quinn Cameron, who had 2,890 points. Credo Christian鈥檚 Elia Farag Alla was sixth with 2,610 points.

Vandergugten said he entered the competition just hoping for a strong showing but after winning his first two events 鈥 the 100m hurdles (13.81) and long jump (5.95m) 鈥 knew he was in good shape.

鈥淭o place, really,鈥 he said about his pre-competition goals.

He followed that up with a third place in the shot put (12.47m), fith in the high jump (1.62m) and sixth in the 1000m (3:06.97).

And in the Grade 8 pentathlon, 91原创 Fundamental鈥檚 Coltrane Davyduck captured the silver medal, scoring 2,385 points. Pacific Academy鈥檚 Praise Aniamake won gold with 2,749.

He was second in both the 100m hurdles (16.23) and long jump (5.30) and fourth in the shot put (9.18m) and high jump (1.56m). He was eighth in the 1000m (3:17.72).

Another Credo Christian athlete, Ryan Togeretz was sixth in the senior boys鈥 decathlon, scoring 4,615 points over the 10 events and
