Day 2: Girls high school basketball teams do battle

All 64 teams are squaring off again on Day 2 of the BC School Sports Girls Basketball Provincial Championships

When the Pitt Meadows Marauders hit the basketball court tonight for the second day of provincial championship play, they’re no longer fighting for a chance to medal.

The best the girls team can finish is ninth place in the game against Alberni District at 8:30 this evening in 91Ô­´´.

The Marauders are among 64 B.C. teams – across four tiers of play – who tipped off for their first-round games at 91Ô­´´ Events Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

They lost 59-45 to Prince George’s College Heights Secondary.

Day 1 saw just two upsets on the opening day of the BC School Sports Girls Basketball Provincial Championships.

In the 3A tournament, it was R.A. McMath Wildcats – the #9 seed – defeating the eighth-seed Little Flower Academy Angels while in the 4A draw, the #10 Kelowna Owls won over the #7 Charles Best Blue Devils.

Day 2 today (Thursday, Feb. 27) will see each team play its second games.
