Coquitlam uses quick strike to silence Thunder

They hung tough with the top-ranked junior A lacrosse team in all of Canada, but goals 61 seconds apart in the third period proved to be the difference.

The 91Ô­´´ Junior Thunder were looking to beat the Coquitlam Junior Adanacs for a second time this season, but fell short, losing 9-8 on Thursday (June 22) at the 91Ô­´´ Events Centre in BC Junior A Lacrosse League action.

Coquitlam leads the league at 16-1 while 91Ô­´´ is tied for third at 8-8.

Trailing 7-6 after two periods, 91Ô­´´â€™s Mitch McDole and Dawson Rodin put the Thunder ahead 8-7 with 10 minutes to play. The Adanacs would strike for two quick goals to take the lead for good.

McDole (two goals, two assists), Ryan Martel (two goals, three assists) and Nathaniel Kozevnikov (two goals, one assist) each had multi-goal games. Nathan Mckeigan chipped in with four assists.

Jake Sundar made 45 saves as the Thunder were out-shot 54-37.

91Ô­´´ is back in action this weekend with a pair of games, Saturday (June 24) in Victoria and Sunday (June 25) back at the LEC against Nanaimo. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
