Nick Colyn finished second to lead the Trinity Western Spartans cross-country team at the University of Washington Sundodger Open on Saturday in Seattle.
Colyn finished the eight-kilometre course in 24:33.04. By comparison, he was 30.86 seconds slower on the same course last year when he finished 23rd overall.
Another TWU runner, Caleb de Jong just missed the podium, placing fourth in 24:37.71. Levi Neufeld also cracked the top 10, finishing seventh in 24:50.71.
And combined with James Lam (25:32.59) and Tyler DeJong (25:40.65), TWU won the team title with 46 points, 24 ahead of second-place SFU.
The Spartans women鈥檚 team was also in Seattle, finishing fourth at the Sundodger Open.
Mirelle Martens led the way for the TWU women with a fifth-place finish, completing the six-kilometre course in 21:26.37.
Jouen Chang (22:06.47) and Joanna Williams (22:16.21) finished back-to-back, placing 16th and 17th overall, respectively.
Mikaela Smart (22:26.46) and Claire Noort (24:43.93) rounded out the TWU top five.
The TWU cross-country teams are back in action on Oct. 14 at the UVic Invitational at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria.
Both Spartan cross-country teams are ranked third nationally.
