Chiefs' Myers picks up handful of hardware

Awards a nice honour, but immediate concern is long playoff run

91Ô­´´ Chiefs forward Josh Myers, who led the team with 40 goals and 80 points, was named co-MVP with captain Trevor Gerling as the Chiefs handed out their year-end awards.

Josh Myers took home triple honours as the 91Ô­´´ Chiefs handed out their year-end hardware.Myers shared the most valuable player award with team captain Trevor Gerling. But his other two honours were his alone, earning the Joey Potskin Award as top scorer — Myers scored 40 goals and 40 assists — and for the second year in a row, the fan favourite award.Myers' 40 goals were second in the BCHL and his 80 points were tied for sixth."It is a great honour," Myers said. "(But) it is one of those things which I can keep in my back pocket and cherish it hopefully after we win the RBC Cup (national championship)."He credited his outstanding season to his linemates."I have to give some credit to (them)," he said. "I wouldn't be where I am right now, without them."At the start of the year, Myers skated with Matt Ius and Darnell Dyck.Lately, he has been on a line with Trevor Gerling and Brandon Thompson.Brad McBride is the other player in the Chiefs' top six mix and among them, they have combined to score 65 per cent of the team's offence (155 of the 240 goals).Josh Hansen won the team's Kurt Alberts Rookie of the Year Award.Gerling and Brandon Thompson shared the Don Nicholls Sr. Community Player of the Year Award.Dillon Scholten was a multiple winner, earning accolades as the top defenceman and for the crunch of the year (biggest hit).Rookie forward Mason Blacklock won the Ross Beebe Education Award as the top scholastic player and defenceman Kevin Tuohy earned the most improved player award.Trace Strahle, a first-year defenceman, won the most dedicated player award.The Harmony Cup, presented to the team's unsung hero, was shared by Matt Ius and Kody Dhaliwal.And the Century Pacific Foundry Three Stars of the year went to goaltender Wyatt Galley (first star), Myers (second star) and Brad McBride.Long-time volunteer Rick Taron, an integral part of the Chiefs since they arrived in 91Ô­´´, was recognized for his contribution as the volunteer of the year.
