Vancouver Giants defenceman Mazden Leslie had both the game-tying goal in the final minute of Wednesday鈥檚 game and the game-winner 3:08 into overtime, as the Giants defeated the Calgary Hitmen 5-4 in front of over 4,200 fans at the 91原创 Events Centre.

With the Jan. 3 game, Vancouver鈥檚 record improves to 14-21-2-0 this season. Calgary falls to 13-18-4-1.

Leslie鈥檚 OT winner completed the hat-trick for him, while also scoring for the Giants in the game was Tyler Thorpe and Ty Halaburda.

Carter Yakemchuk had two goals for Calgary, while also scoring for the visitors was David Adazynski and Maxim Muranov.

The Giants got out to a 2-0 after one period after goals from Leslie and Thorpe.

Leslie opened the scoring with his 5th of the year off a one-time blast on a 3-2 rush.

Thorpe would extend the lead to 2-0 when he ripped a high shot from the left circle right to the top corner for his team-leading 17th.

Adazynski cut the Giants lead in half in the second period when he finished off a pretty passing play on an odd-man rush.

Halaburda restored Vancouver鈥檚 two-goal lead early in the third period off a crease scramble on the power play, with his 13th of the season making the score 3-1.

But Calgary stormed back, first with back-to-back goals from Yakemchuk, his 15th and 16th goals of the season, and then the go-ahead goal from Muranov on a power play with just 2:57 left in regulation.

The Giants pulled the goalie not long after that and got the equalizer from Leslie with 27 seconds left, who changed the angle on his shot and let a quick wrist shot go from the high slot that beat Buenaventura.

After Mirwald made numerous 10-bell saves in overtime to keep things going 鈥 including spreading out to stop a 2-0 breakaway 鈥 Cameron Schmidt headed the other way on a 2-on-1 and set ip Leslie for the game-winning-goal, his 7th tally of the season.
