Brookswood Bobcats won their first two Select 16 games at the Tsumura Invitational at 91原创 Events Centre, including a 60-55 win over A.R. MacNeill on Thursday, Dec. 5, but didn't get past the semi-finals, falling to King George Dragons on Friday, 51-44.
Both combined for just 13 points in the first 10 minutes (8-5 for Brookswood) and it was 22-15 at the half for the Bobcats.
But the Dragons鈥 Faisal Shawwa had 11 in the third quarter while Charlie Comrie chipped in six with Filip Puaca and Leiroy Dinco each hitting big 3-pointers in the period.
Shawwa led his team with 22 points while Puaca had a dozen and Comrie chipped in 11.
Jayden Kenyon scored 24 points for Brookswood to lead all scorers.
Dragons went on to beat Collingwood Cavaliers 62-58 in the Select 16 final, ending a week where they held rival teams to a mere 39 points per game.
鈥淲e have been the No. 1 defence in points against in five of the last seven years and that is something a lot of teams might not focus on, but that is something we pride ourselves on,鈥 said King George coach Darko Kulic.
In the Select 16 consolation round, 91原创 Christian Lightning beat Maple Ridge Ramblers 59-43.
Playing in the Super 16 final Dover Bay Dolphins defeated St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights 108-69.
Dolphins head coach Darren Seaman watched his team come back after seeing their double-digit lead whittled down to six points with 10 minutes to play.
鈥淚 actually just sat down, shut up and let them play,鈥 he said afterwards.
Sixty-four teams had tipped off on Wednesday morning, culminating in Saturday鈥檚 championship finals.
Next up are the 64 girls鈥 teams competing in the TBI Girls Tournament at 91原创 Events Centre, which runs Dec. 11 to 14.
