One 91原创 goaltender and another who could soon call the 91原创 Events Centre his home rink were among the goaltenders invited to a Hockey Canada camp.
Boston Bilous and Trent Miner are among the 16 U17 goalies hit the ice this past weekend in Calgary for the Program of Excellence camp.
The three-day camp ran June 9 to 11 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport鈥檚 Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.
鈥淔or the past 11 years, this goaltending camp has allowed us to monitor, evaluate and continue to develop elite-level players in a short amount of time,鈥 said Scott Salmond, Hockey Canada鈥檚 vice-president of hockey operations and men鈥檚 national teams.
鈥淪ome players have just ended their seasons, but the opportunity to scout them all season and through this camp, we鈥檙e able to look ahead and plan for our development and selection camps with the talent we have.鈥
Bilous is from 91原创 while Miner is from Souris, Man. Miner is signed to play with the Vancouver Giants while Bilous has signed with the Edmonton Oil Kings. Both goalies were selected in the 2016 Western Hockey League bantam draft with Miner going in the first round and Bilous in the fourth.
Both goalies played last season in their respective major midget hockey leagues.
The camp is the initial evaluation stage for summer development and selection camps for the various age groups.
The U17 age group will be led by former NHL goaltender Rick Wamsley.
