Bauder, Roman help Canada win silver

91原创鈥檚 Lisa Roman and Kristin Bauder helped Canada to a silver-medal showing at the 2017 rowing world championships.

Romania beat the Canadian side with New Zealand taking bronze in the women鈥檚 eights competition at the championships in Sarasota, Fla. on Oct. 1.

Romania finished the race in 6:06.40 while Canada edged New Zealand and the United States with a time of 6:07.09. The U.S. had won the last 11 world championships.

鈥淲e are so proud,鈥 said cox Kristin Kit. 鈥淲e stuck to our race plan and this was an amazing race for us.鈥

鈥淭hat extra rep race was a great opportunity to figure out what was going on in the boat and use it to power us forward in the finals,鈥 said Susanne Grainger.

鈥淎s our coach always says, you don鈥檛 always need to be the best crew, you just need to be the best crew on that day. We were fine tuning, and more fine tuning to make sure we had the best race and today was that day,鈥 said an emotional Christine Roper.

Kit 鈥 Canada鈥檚 coxswain 鈥 had such a pivotal role in getting the Canadian boat to that finish line in second place.

鈥淜it yelled, at the 1500m mark, if you want to win, you gotta go now,鈥 said Bauder.

Roman and Bauder 鈥 鈥 now spend the majority of the year in London, Ont. with Rowing Canada.

and has been part of the national team program since 2011.

Bauder has been part of the program since 2014.
