Eight swim clubs and about 200 competitors took part in the Aldergrove Splash Into Summer Swim Meet, hosted by the Aldergrove Sea Monkeys at the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre pool on Saturday and Sunday, June 11-12.

Swimmers of all ages took part in the event, the third swim meet of the summer season in the Lower Mainland.

Several Sea Monkeys competitors posted top-five finishes, and many swam best times at the meet, which is only the second to be hosted by the new Aldergrove club since it was founded in 2019.

Club president Rachelle Harron was pleased with the swimmers performance.

鈥淲e鈥檙e a new club,鈥� Harron noted.

鈥溾�淪ome of them had their first races, for some it was their second or third meet.鈥�

Harron noted the club, which currently has 60 swimmers, got started just as the pandemic hit, something Harron described as 鈥渁 monkey wrench for everybody, no pun intended.鈥�

Online, the club maintains a Facebook page 鈥�,鈥� which is registering swimmers in a variety of categories. Openings are limited, however, Harron cautioned.

鈥淭here might be a few spots,鈥� Harron advised.

Aldergrove Sea Monkeys offer a wide range of programs, beginning with Micro Monkeys, an introduction for swimmers aged four to 10, Introduction to competitive for swimmers aged five to 12, Developmental, an entry level competitive program for swimmers five 15 who can swim 25 meters in the main pool.

In the Junior and senior competitive programs, swimmers must be able to swim 50 meters and be assessed by club coaches.

Masters swimming is for older siblings (19 and up) and/or parents of registered swimmers, who must be able to swim 50 meters continuously.

There is also an artistic swimming course (what used to be known as synchronized swimming) geared for junior and senior swimmers, giving participants the opportunity to work with teammates to learn a beginner level routine.
