Editor: I had a rather unsettling experience the other day, when I went looking to adopt a cat.
I was totally unaware that some organizations like CARES will not adopt out animals to some of us, because we are 鈥渢oo old.鈥
I am 81, but no one asked my age. I live in a large house with my husband, but no one asked about the kind of home I could offer to a cat.
I have close family and friends who would take the animal if something happened to me, but no one asked that question either. I already have two cats and two dogs, and guess what? They did not ask me that question either. I am simply too old.
We continually hear pleas about all the animals needing adoption. I am sure there are younger families who ignore their animals when the kids lose interest. In some cases, they move and leave the animal behind.
Is the person wishing to adopt being 鈥渢oo old鈥 a worse fate for an animal? I don鈥檛 think so.
