Voting system challenged

Editor: A Canada-wide online town hall meeting (Webinar) is planned on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

It will provide information on a court case unfolding in the province of Quebec, which challenges the validity of the First Past the Post (FPTP) electoral system. The case will be heard on Feb. 8.

The local venue for this Fair Voting BC event is at 8991 Bartlett Street, Fort 91原创. For more information, or to register for the event go to www.fairvotingbc.com and follow the links.

THE plaintiffs will speak about the case, legal arguments and strategy, and the potential ramifications for other provinces in Canada. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and make comments.

The case could proceed to the Supreme Court. The plaintiffs are looking for financial support for their case.

Our right to vote should provide for meaningful participation, and significant representation. Both of these rights are consistently violated by the FPTP voting system.
