Editor: Our nation鈥檚 Supreme Court has ruled that a safe place to inject drugs at the public expense is acceptable. This is unbelievable.
The druggies then go out and steal a purse from a little old lady, rip off a laptop, break into cars and burglarize homes. They then fence the stolen items, often for five to 10 cents on the dollar 鈥 all to support their drug habit.
So what does the Supreme Court of Canada say. 鈥淚t鈥檚 OK to do drugs, here we鈥檒l help you.鈥
No thought is apparently given to the victims. This is not surprising, since there is no mention of victims鈥 rights nor of a citizen responsibilities in Pierre Trudeau鈥檚 Charter of Rights and Freedoms of 1982.
Since the Supreme Court is apparently unable to see the forest for the trees, I would urge the B.C. government to invoke the 鈥渘otwithstanding鈥 clause in the Canadian constitution, to rescind this foolish ruling as it applies to this province.
After all, that is what this section of the constitution was intended for. Furthermore, the B.C. government can look at the province of Quebec for guidance. It has used this clause many times in the past.
