Stop harassing neighbours

Editor: I found it both completely ironic and hypocritical that an individual who wrote this nonsense (鈥淩V parking bylaw necessary鈥 鈥 letter, The Times, Jan. 28) about the illegal bylaws for parking RVs, trailer, and boats chose not only to be listed as 鈥渁nonymous,鈥 but also made reference several times to phrases like 鈥渙wnership鈥 as well as 鈥渙ur property.鈥

I鈥檓 very sorry that he is of the opinion that the sight of an RV in some homeowner鈥檚 driveway is an eyesore, or that it de-values neighbouring properties. I disagree and actually think the opposite. When I see a neighbourhood with RVs, boats, and trailers, I think this is a very successful neighbourhood 鈥 a nice place to live 鈥 since the homeowners managed to claw back some money from the taxman and can afford these items.

I also think that they have a desire to get out and go camping or boating and explore some of our beautiful province. They are not staying cooped up at home 365 days out of the year, wondering what their neighbours are up to and meddling in their lives.

Although the anonymous author is completely entitled to his opinion, this is where it should end. For the same reasons that he chose not to have his name posted in The Times, he must realize that it is for the same reason that money-grabbing bylaws such as this infringe on the rights of the legal owners of these items. This is probably why he experienced so much opposition from those he was affecting.

This is an issue of property and ownership 鈥 period. This bylaw goes against provincial and federal laws, not to mention our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Do you honestly think that our veterans fought and died for our freedoms, only to have some meddling neighbour (or bylaw officer) come and dictate where we can store our property?

This is an illegal money grab, plain and simple, and it is time that it be abolished.

The lame excuse that RVs cause owners to park their vehicles on the road, thus cluttering them, is also hogwash. One only need look at the housing developments that the Township has approved in the last year. Most of these developments do not even have driveways.

This is also not an issue of 91原创 being rural or not 鈥 this is simply about ownership. I own a trailer, I bought it legally, I own it legally. I own a house with property around it, I bought it legally, I own it legally 鈥 and it is my right to store whatever I legally own on that property wherever I choose. End of story.

If someone as narrow-minded as the author of this article is so concerned about a neighbour鈥檚 RV devaluing his property, I have this question for them. Do you also believe that you (or the Township) can dictate to me what colour(s) I choose to paint my house?

I would think that this would be more of an issue as far as devaluing properties around me would be concerned, compared to a trailer, RV or boat. Perhaps a nice purple paisley pattern, with fluorescent pink polka dots and yellow vertical stripes?

I am amazed how some people seem fine telling others to spend more money and just rent storage for their RVs. I worked my butt off just to be able to afford my trailer, and no one is going to force me to spend more money to have to have it stored anywhere else.

The Township must start removing all bylaws that infringe on our basic rights and freedoms.

I will be taking this issue as far as the Supreme Court of Canada if this letter writer or the Township ever decides to approach me regarding my property.

You want it in commercial storage? Are you prepared to pay for it? If not, then mind your own business.
