Skewed portrait of schools

Editor: The Fraser Institute’s assessment of schools throughout the province is, in my opinion, skewed. It may reflect a small window of statistical data; however, what it does not portray is the incredible work that is going on within the schools of 91Ô´´.

Our teachers are being faced with increasing pressures to do more with less. Despite these stresses, they are rising to the challenge with significant success.

As parents, we entrust our children to the schools and our teachers to not only teach them academics, but to also educate them socially and emotionally as part of a community — important work that dovetails with similar efforts provided at home.

At R.C. Garnett Demonstration Elementary School, we are dealing with overcrowding and a great deal of stress on our infrastructure and resources. Despite this taxing situation, our children continue to be offered leading-edge curriculum through teachers who clearly see their profession as more than a job.

What the Fraser Institute does not offer through its statistics is a depiction of what is actually going on in our schools — and that is the extraordinary education and fostering of our children.
