Editor: What is it about the intersection of 64th Avenue and Fraser Highway?

On two recent successive Wednesday evenings, I have witnessed drivers running the red light heading east on Fraser Highway. Both cases occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m.

In both cases the vehicles had stopped for the red light. However, when the opposing left turn signal turned green the east bound vehicles proceeded to drive through the intersection.

In one case, the left-turning vehicle braked just in time and sounded their horn while the east bound driver just calmly proceeded through the intersection apparently oblivious to the situation.

Just a coincidence I suppose, but kind of spooky. Same place, same time but two different vehicles.

I caught up with one of the transgressors within a few blocks on Fraser Highway and glancing over while we were both stopped along side each other noticed that the distracted driver and their passenger were involved in quite an animated discussion.

I don’t think it’s just cellphones that are the issue.

My advice, take great care in any intersection, especially 64 Avenue and Fraser Highway.
