LETTER: Reader driven to respond to column suggesting reducing number of cars on local roads

Letter writer has a proposed solution to reduce the amount of road congestion on the Trans Canada Highway between Chilliwack and Vancouver

Dear Editor,

[Re: Column – We need half the number of cars, Black Press Media]

In response to a column by reporter Matthew Claxton in the Surrey Now-Leader.
My proposed solution to the B.C. premier and B.C. transportation minister for the reduction of cars on the Trans Canada Highway from Chilliwack to Vancouver
is to use the $3 billion every year B.C. government collects in carbon tax to implement a Monday to Friday (rush hour morning and afternoon)
flight service from the Abbotsford International Airport to Vancouver South Airport.
The B.C. government could implement this proposed flight service solution with four Dash 8 or Q400 planes which could be leased and maintained at
the Abbotsford airport with parking for passenger cars also at the Abbotsford airport. A check in booth would be needed at the Abbotsford Airport and
Vancouver South Airport for all passengers. Tickets could be purchased online for the round trip or one way.
BC Transit shuttle buses could be used from the Vancouver South Airport to the Canada Line for travel to Vancouver.
This could remove 400 cars from the Trans-Canada Highway every day, and Improve climate change and energy consumption..
The money collected by the B.C. province carbon tax could fund this proposed project and other cities could also contribute, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, and Vancouver.
B.C. would be a leader in climate change and energy consumption for this project initiative.
