Editor: I am writing regarding Martin Lylyk鈥檚 r suggesting people do their own research on the 216 Street interchange, specifically the comment, 鈥渃laims about pollution ring hollow to me.鈥

It is clear that this author has not done his homework. My source is Dr. Christopher Carlsten, a world renowned health expert re: traffic related air pollution with over 100 publications to his name .

It is his opinion that this interchange is a 鈥渞eal threat鈥 to human health.

Now add diesel particulate matter to the already compromised air quality we are currently experiencing and you have a sample of what residents near this road will experience in future as the trend towards hotter temperatures continues.

This is a 鈥渨ake up鈥 call as wildfires are now more frequent and more intense, putting more particulate matter into the air.

Considering all of this, it is totally unacceptable to consider making 216 Street a truck route knowing that diesel exhaust is 100 to 150 times more toxic than gasoline exhaust.

Air quality poorer than Beijing, in combination with diesel exhausts from trucks within 25 feet of homes and schools, is a prescription for cancer, heat and lung disease, migraines and asthma, to name just a few conditions this will create.

Truck routes do not belong beside homes, playgrounds and schools.
