LETTER: 91原创 senior critical of modern society's cruelty

91原创 City resident said nations can't consider themselves civilized if feeding and housing people are not priorities

Dear Editor,

This letter is written to all countries who turns the blind eye to the solutions that evade us to feed and house and care for the people who are in need.

In the beginning my sight was focused on a homeless person near a bus stop here in 91原创 rummaging through the waste bin and I thought he was looking for containers and bottles for the deposit money he could get from them, but it became obvious this wasn鈥檛 his task as I approached closer and found he was scavenging for food. The picture of his desperation of his hunger was his effort of scrapping off leftover scraps of food off of containers and one plastic container that had some ice cream left in it at least that was what I assumed it was, and he began eating it.

I looked carefully at this person and recognized him as I have seen him throughout the years wandering the streets in disheveled, tattered and ragged clothes and it became obvious this man has never received the obvious attention and care he had needed from our system.

I did approach him and told him he shouldn鈥檛 be eating this stuff out of the bin and handed him some money and mentioned for him to go and get something to eat and he thanked me and walked away. My bus came and I got on it and I realized then I should of given him more money and that thought hasn鈥檛 left my head.

Hunger and poverty are a wedding of failures in this country, especially, when a country such as ours waste money daily, and when this tragedy is coupled with homelessness it makes this world a shameful place to live in when we can鈥檛 eradicate it or address it to the level that is needed.

鈥淟etters are not action but an act of need that further defines the need to action.鈥

The halls of government should display these letters on the walls for all to read, and the Houses of Parliament should read aloud these failings of our homeland for this is truly the business of this nation.

Hunger has a face where it is difficult and dangerous for us to avoid its existence. Hunger seeks refuge from starvation; and in our daily lives the establishments of our charities must provide food and shelter for the people who are in need and who are struggling because our governments are failing.

Hunger has a face and its features are outlined in political policies and charitable works, but lies in a quagmire of centuries of indifference and inability to solve the problems that form its core foundation and of how it eventually evolves into one or many going hungry.

鈥淭here are years of hunger in this country鈥 and we keep calling ourselves a civilized nation with one of the best economies in the world, but our food banks are overwhelmed, and we are unable to house our future with an adequate supply of housing.

Hunger for life has become an epic journey where a walk to a bus stop or to a coffee shop is being confronted with people who are in desperation, and a letter to the media is not enough. All governments need to do more. Charities need to do more. Churches need to do more. More and more needs to be done and needs to be done now.

How many faces will you recognize over and over again of people who are in need of help?

The world 鈥 all the world contains city blocks of people who are suffering and are in desperation, and hunger is not just one block away it lies immediately outside your door. Here in life right now is a step towards a moment when we as nation should be walking toward it, it begins with time, and for time to stop being wasted and for politicians to realize what your offering is not working, and there is a real hunger for answers out there right now.

There are street lights in the cities so we can see where we are going.

I know, I never will want to see another human being eating out of a garbage bin in this city or anywhere where life walks. Will I forget about this person I don鈥檛 even know, I doubt it, his image was defined within me years ago when I first saw him, and I will never forget. I should have of given him more money with answers that would have helped him with his life when I was at the bus-stop and yes, even years ago. The message now is in this letter.
