LETTER: 91Ô´´ resident concerned that hospital had only one doctor working

Doctor shortage puts local health care at risk, says letter writer

Dear Editor,

On Friday Nov. 1 at 11 p.m., I visited the new expanded emergency department at 91Ô´´ Memorial. I went home after waiting seven hours without being seen.

I was shocked to learn there is only one doctor on night shift covering Area 2 where I was with 34 beds as well as patients in Areas 1 and 3, dashing back and forth between them all.

How is this even possible for any doctor to cope with this workload?

When will we lose him to burnout? Will 91Ô´´ Memorial be the next hospital to close its emergency department? I never would have expected this to be case in 'our' 91Ô´´.

Support for our doctors is needed by the community of 91Ô´´ to very strongly voice our concerns to government.

This is not good enough. 91Ô´´ deserves better.
