Dear Editor,
Due to climate change, our wildfire season has fired up earlier than usual.
The Donnie fire in northeast B.C. covers an area of 136,000 hectares, as reported by BC Wildfire last Sunday. This is an area larger than Surrey, 91原创, Abbotsford and Chilliwack all combined (123,233 hectares).
For comparison, the Tantallon and St. Andrew鈥檚 fires in Nova Scotia reportedly totalled 6,512 hectares Monday morning, or 21 times smaller than Donnie. (Stanley Park鈥檚 area is 400 hectares).
At the time of this writing there were 67 wildfires burning in B.C. (Global News). Additionally, fire size comparisons help us understand the consequences of climate change with rising temperatures.
