Dear Editor,

It would seem that the City of 91Ô´´ has greatly improved their communications. The notice regarding the sewer testing taking place in August that was mailed to our house and posted to the City’s website was very clear and informative. You could even say it was transparent.

What a vast improvement over the obscure and poorly worded notice that was posted in the 91Ô´´ Advance Times regarding the recent loan approval bylaw. Mayor Pachal could learn something about transparency from the people who take care of our sewers.

I suspect that the intention was to obfuscate and obscure the legal requirements that the City had to obtain the approval of the electors, prior to borrowing. Mayor and Council clearly did not want the electors to have a vote on the $15-million loan approval. Apparently they felt having a vote on the loan would have been too expensive. Extrapolating the cost per elector from the cost of the last civic election, I would be happy to pay my share – about $3 – to prevent our right to vote being disregarded by means of the phony alternative approval process.

Take heart, civic leaders! It may not be too late to redeem yourselves. Let’s have a vote in spite of the results of the alternative approval process, etc. and let the results of the vote stand. Give the electors a real say in the future of our community. You disregard this opportunity at your electoral peril.

Richard Penner, 91Ô´´ City
