Dear Editor,
[Re:
Waste collection fees rising in the City, 91原创 Advance Times, Oct. 30]

I feel the 91原创 City mayor and council are not looking out for their taxpayers.

The recent announcement that our waste collection fees will nearly double, from $156 to $309 per year, indicates to me that the council is more interested in 鈥渞ubberstamping鈥 any issue, instead of working hard to trim costs to their taxpayers. Only Delaney Mack questioned why we needed these new features at such a cost.

In the last two years, we have had the burden of 10 per cent-plus property tax rate increases per year, including borrowing money that will take 20 years to pay. In addition, we will have to pay 25 per cent more to Metro Vancouver for waste water treatment and other services this coming year.

The mayor continually restates that 91原创 City has one of the lowest rates, whether waste collection or property taxes in Metro Vancouver, but this rhetoric is not a thorough enough explanation as to why our costs continue to rise without any improvement in service.
